To Lose His Heart is a different kind of novel than the first in the series. More somber and thoughtful, without losing the bulk of its charm or sense of adventure. Reading them both straight through was no problem, but they can each be enjoyed separately. Maybe in the bath or on a rainy day. There’s a third novella coming out that will surely be just as good. Romance definitely takes a back seat to plot, but that’s okay. Sometimes it’s nice just to read about a gay hero.Alec Nortan’s talent could easily go to something greater, to push the envelopes of romance and character. But if he just sticks to spy capers, they’ll still be a lot of fun.

In this book, Matt's life takes an unexpected turn. The author keeps developing the different characters, and makes us discover new sides. He Matt loses everything. Twice. It's a real tear-jerker at times, and I really look forward to the next adventure to learn what happens to Matt.
Okay, so I didn’t really care for the first book, To Steal His Heart, but I wanted to give this one a shot, and I must admit I liked it better. The plot is still rather all over the place, but the insanely shocking twist gripped at and proceeded to break my heart. The pacing is still weird, with huge jumps in time, but again, the peripheral characters helped to make the book better overall. In the end, I’m rating this at three stars. It’s not going to be a favorite, and I’m not particularly interested in continuing the series, but with additional experience, I believe this author could accomplish great things. I’ll be watching.

Loving two men is hard.
Matt Glenn is finally happy...somewhat. Nothing changes the fact that he's still in love with two men. His ex Ben, the man he met during a security consultant job and walked away from, and Jordan, now interim Chief of Police whom he has decided to make a life with.
My heart ached for Matt.
With the pressures of life and job, Matt walks away from Jordan when his lover becomes distant. Thinking the man had moved on, Matt does the same. Ben re-enters his life at this pivotal moment and they negotiate the terms Matt has set to keeping Ben safe. For three years they live in a cocoon until it was all violently ripped away.
Life goes on even if we don't.
This book was like an cleansing of the soul. As a reader, I sit here in shock as I write this review. How much can one man take, and can he recover when all seems apparently lost? It took a year of soul searching, but Matt appears ready To Fight His Heart (book 3 coming this August).
